Could You Be A Community Responder?

Training and Equipment

SNCR training and assessment with EMAS

The Community First Responder role

Our Community First Responders (CFR) are trained to deliver life-saving skills, mainly in their local communities fro those who dial 999 or 111. Normally arriving at the scene before being backed up by an ambulance from East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). Starting life-saving treatment early, means CFRs really do help save more lives. Community First Responders are trained in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), basic airway management and oxygen therapy, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the event of a cardiac arrest. We also attend patients who are suffering conditions such as Asthma attacks, Anaphylaxis, Strokes (CVA), Traumatic injuries. Community First Responders also have specialist training and equipment to deal with non-injury falls.

If you are physically fit, have access to a vehicle and want to make voluntary contribution to your community, why not think about becoming a Community First Responder? You will need to be able commit to 16 on-call hours a month as a minimum. All training and support will be provided by South Northants Community Responders.

Trained First Responders

Each responder completes a minimum of 21 hours of comprehensive training, coupled with a structured mentoring program, ensuring they are fully prepared for active duty. This robust preparation culminates in a formal assessment, validating their readiness to respond to emergencies. To maintain their proficiency and stay updated with the latest in emergency care, our responders also participate in regular refresher sessions, demonstrating our commitment to excellence and the safety of our community.

Equipment

Our Community First Responders are always prepared for emergencies, carrying a response bag with vital life-saving equipment. This includes essential basic life support and first aid tools, along with crucial devices like an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and salbutamol, to respond effectively to a range of urgent medical situations. Additionally, the South Northants Community Responders (SNCR) vehicles are equipped with specialised equipment, including lifting equipment for falls and Entonox, enhancing our ability to provide comprehensive emergency care in any situation.

Regular checks

To ensure the highest standards, our responders conduct thorough monthly checks of their equipment. Additionally, they undergo periodic reassessments to maintain their skills as a CFR and emergency response capabilities at all times. This commitment to regular training and assessment underlines our dedication to providing a reliable and proficient community emergency response service.
